The rhythm and movement of tap, created by the metal taps on the heels and toes of a dancer’s shoes, transforms the dancer into a percussive musician. Tap dance emphasizes the flow of movement by teaching the dancer to find rhythms and beats not only in music but in their own bodies.
Classes include:
- First Steps Ballet / Tap
This hour long class introduces 3-5 year olds to ballet and tap, including lower body technique, basic steps and vocabulary. Students should come to class with shoes, as they will need to change during classtime. - Ballet / Tap / Jazz
This combination class starts with tots at age 3 with First Steps, and progresses through petites, juniors, and advanced level classes. First Steps introduces 3-5 year olds to ballet and tap, including lower body technique, basic steps and vocabulary. Petites picks up with older kids ages 5 to 9, and builds on the skills developed in First Steps, plus introduces Jazz techniques such as spotting, leaping, center control, and turning. We continue training with Juniors ages 9 to 11, and begin more advanced techniques starting at age 12. - Competition Petite Ballet/ Tap/ Jazz
For 5-7 year olds, this 90 minute class represents Showtime Productions in both regional and national dance competitions. Must have First Steps Ballet/Tap/Jazz class to be selected. - Intermediate Competition Tap
For 9-11 year olds, this 60 minute class represents Showtime Productions in both regional and national dance competitions. Must have First Steps Ballet/Tap/Jazz class to be selected.
